ABOUT FLORA JAMIESON STAINED GLASS
I undertake a wide variety of stained glass commissions - from small commemorative panels to full sets of window or door panels. As well as my own contemporary designs, I also reproduce and restore windows from our rich heritage of domestic stained glass, such as those from the Victorian, Edwardian, Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras.
My contemporary stained glass designs are inspired by graphic design, the natural world, organic forms and geometric patterns. Colour palettes are bold yet simple, lead lines are meticulous and purposeful and patterns are hand-painted and repetitive, with the fluidity and texture of the brush stroke telling part of the story.
"My favourite part of the stained glass process is choosing the glass colours - selecting just the right tones and shades so that they sing out next to each other. Once I have applied the paint and fired it in the kiln, something magical happens - seeing the contrast between the painted details and the vibrant colours, bringing the piece to life. "

I am also a freelance glass painter for stained glass studios in the UK and further afield. Specialising in reproduction Victorian Bird Roundels, I seek to be as faithful to the traditional techniques as possible, having studied many beautiful original examples over the past 18 years. I have worked on several church windows in conjunction with other stained glass studios, painting replicas of damaged pieces. Examples can be seen here.
